News: Another LI Pharmacy Held Up
(Long Island, N.Y.) A CVS Pharmacy in Sayville was held up Monday at roughly twelve in the afternoon. Police and authorities on the case say that a masked gunman entered the pharmacy and stole prescription drugs. The suspect fled and was not yet apprehended after he managed to fire an air pistol at one of the pharmacy’s employees.
The CVS in question was located on Main Street and investigators claimed that over a hundred pills were taken during the incident. Some reports stated that 150 Oxycotin pills were lifted by the suspect who fled out of the pharmacy’s rear door. According to sources, the suspect had been wearing a hooded sweatshirt and a black scarf that disguised his face.
Fortunately for police and detectives on the case, the suspect had been spotted by a handful of witnesses in addition to the store’s employee. It’s likely that the pharmacy’s customers had seen the suspect amidst the robbery. According to reports, the suspect leaped over the pharmacy counter during his mad pursuit to obtain the drugs before exiting the pharmacy.
Some sources claimed that the suspect fired at the employee’s foot. Luckily, no injuries were sustained as a result of the shooting. However, after disregarding the first weapon, the suspect reached for weapon #2 and forced the employee to open the pharmacy’s safe.
It is uncertain why police and authorities on the case did not initially release images of the suspect via video surveillance. Nonetheless, it has been determined that the suspect is a male between his twenties and thirties. There are likely to be many updates in the case as more information is released to the public and the investigation into the culprit continues.
Some sources claimed that crimes belonging to this nature are often sloppy and careless. In many cases, the subject is so desperate to obtain the prescription drugs that there are many witnesses left with information about the holdup. It’s likely that the culprits in these cases are addicts who will do anything in desperation to reach their drug of choice.
Police and authorities on the case are asking anyone with more information to call the Fifth Squad detectives at the Suffolk County Police Department. Investigators have also suggested that anyone with more details concerning the crime contact Crime Stoppers. They urge the public to keep in mind that all calls are kept confidential and identities will remain anonymous.
This case echoes many others to occur on Long Island in recent months. Two other pharmacy robberies, including the Medford Pharmacy Shooting, involved suspects with the desire for prescription drugs.
