News: Bank Robbed In Hewlett
(Long Island, N.Y.) Nassau County Police officers responded to a call about a bank robbery in Hewlett yesterday afternoon. At roughly five minutes to four a Roslyn savings bank was robbed by two men carrying guns. The men had entered the store wearing black and white masks to disguise their appearance.
The scene of the robbery was a Roslyn Savings Bank located at 1280 Broadway. Both men had been allegedly carrying handguns and used them to steal an unspecified amount of cash from the security of the bank’s employees. The nine workers were ordered to stay on the floor and were powerless to stop the suspects.
The gunmen proceeded to take off with the money and travel in an unseen direction towards an unknown destination. Reports stated that at least one employee was treated at the scene after being sprayed with a can of mace. The fifty-seven-year-old victim sustained burns after one of the robbers inflicted the injury.
Some sources claimed that one of the gunmen jumped over the tellers counter in an attempt to obtain the money on the other side. There were also reports of hostages being taken during the incident to be used as leverage in fulfilling the robbers’ demands. One woman was allegedly pepper sprayed amidst the robbery.
Fortunately, no one was seriously injured as a result of the gunmen’s maneuvers. Police and authorities on the case are asking anyone with information about the robbery to call Crime Stoppers Tip Hotline. Investigators urge the public to keep in mind that all calls will remain anonymous.
One of the suspects was an estimated five-feet-and-nine-inches tall and had been wearing a tan jacket that was three-quarters in length. He was also wearing dark pants at the time of the incident. The other robber was described as being roughly six feet in height and had been wearing a black hooded jacket with a silver stripe on the hood, blue jeans, and white sneakers.
This is one of several incidents of bank robbery to occur on Long Island in previous months. A string of robberies involving a team of young men took place at banks in the towns of West Babylon and Deer Park. A TD Bank and Bank of America were among the places targeted in the recent string of bank robberies.
This incident also comes after a Long Island pharmacy was allegedly robbed by a thirty-three-year-old gunman. The suspect, who did not seek cash, took off with thousands of prescription pain killers after murdering four innocent people inside the pharmacy. Within a week after the tragic event a CVS pharmacy in Farmingville was robbed by a young man who wrote a threating note to a store employee.
