News: Brooklyn Couple Gunned Down
(Long Island, N.Y.) A twenty-seven-year-old wife and mother is dead after a Tuesday night shooting in Boonton, New Jersey. The young woman, originally from Pakistan, had been traveling with her son and twenty-six-year-old husband. Her husband sustained four gunshot wounds and has been hospitalized.
Luckily, the couple’s three-year-old toddler has escaped the shooting without any injuries and reports stated that he doesn’t understand what happened. The couple had been walking him in a stroller on their way home from visiting relatives for dinner. They had been traveling two blocks away from the home of the deceased’s family, and had approached the corner of Cedar Street and Cornelia when the horrific incident occurred.
The Pakistani Muslim couple had previously been fasting during the daylight hours for the holy month of Ramadan. Reports stated that they were on a fast break prior to the shooting, which occurred at roughly eleven that evening. The couple’s other child, a five-year-old son, was not with them during the incident and had been staying under the watch of caretakers.
As of Wednesday, sources claimed that the husband has been kept in a local hospital in critical but stable condition. Some reports stated that his gunshot wounds were to his ankle and shoulder, and that he had claimed that there were at least three attackers. Witnesses, who were in the area of the residential block, claimed that they heard at least five gunshots.
The couple had been wed in an arraigned marriage six years ago, and the husband was born in Brooklyn. Some sources claimed that he is from Bay Ridge, Brooklyn and others stated that the family’s home was ninety minutes away from the shooting in Flatbush, Brooklyn. However, reports also stated that the husband had been planning to return to Boston where the couple lived while he attended classes for architecture and engineering at Harvard University.
One of the attackers is believed to have been carrying an automatic rifle and three different departments have been looking into the investigation. Likewise, sources claimed that there are three different crime scenes and that the incident occurred as the couple had been walking back to the deceased’s nearby childhood home.
Boonton, New Jersey is a small town located about thirty-five miles northwest of New York City. Sources claimed that the husband had to undergo surgery to remove bullet fragments from the shooting. Some reports stated that his grief-stricken father was not able to see him at all during his treatment.
Many questions and loose ends have been prompted as a result of this case, and detectives on the scene have been treating it as an ongoing investigation. Police and authorities are likely seeking the public’s help in determining the identities of the multiple attackers.
