News: Brooklyn Man Murders Girlfriend
(Long Island, N.Y.) A thirty-six-year-old Brooklyn man was arraigned today after having been arrested on Tuesday for second-degree murder and weapons possession. His thirty-four-year-old girlfriend was found dead in his apartment on Tuesday at roughly one-thirty in the afternoon. After fleeing to eastern Long Island, the man was brought back to New York City Tuesday night by Suffolk County Police Officers.
The thirty-six-year-old was a New York City Transit dispatcher and had been dating his girlfriend for a few months before police discovered her body in his Bensonhurst apartment. She was found in the bathtub on the second-floor of the apartment on 65th Street and 19th Avenue. Sources say that the area is both quiet and residential.
The woman was stabbed to death by her boyfriend who admitted to stabbing her at least three or four times after the couple had gotten into an argument. Some reports claim that the attack had to have been much more brutal, and that the woman was left to die in a pool of her own blood. She lived just around the corner from her boyfriend’s apartment on 19th Avenue and grew up in the area of Bensonhurst.
After committing the gruesome act of murder, the boyfriend headed eastward to Suffolk County. Reports stated that he made a call to his ex-wife who lived there with his four children. He allegedly informed her of what had happened and asked if he could see his children one last time. In regards to his murdered girlfriend, reports claim that he admitted she was probably dead.
His ex-wife alerted the Suffolk County Police Department and Fifth Precinct Officers were able to take him into custody. He was returned to Brooklyn and taken to the 62nd Precinct. While being handcuffed and escorted by police officers, he claimed to have been sorry for what he had done to the victim and her family. Reports have stated that he told officials on the case that he “lost it” on the day of the murder.
According to reports, there were no known problems between the couple, but sources claim that the boyfriend had a prior arrest for menacing and criminal possession of a weapon. At least one relative of the victim told reporters that he was shocked at the tragedy, and had just seen the victim during the prior evening. She is survived by her twelve-year-old daughter, whom friends and family members claim was the center of her world. She is said to have been a devoted, caring mother.
The victim’s father is the head of the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Office Services Department and has worked at the District Attorney’s Office for over twelve years. Spokesmen for the District Attorney claim that a special prosecutor will be handling the case.
This story is one of many recent incidents of deadly domestic violence between couples in New York City to make the news. In recent weeks, a twenty-three-year-old woman was stabbed to death by her live-in boyfriend in their Manhattan apartment after reports stated that she had intentions of leaving him and moving out. Also, a Brooklyn man has been suspected of killing his girlfriend and her daughter who were found stabbed in the couple’s Sheepshead Bay apartment.
