News: Brooklyn Teen’s Murder Caught on Camera
(Long Island, N.Y.) An eighteen-year-old teen was murdered in broad daylight last Sunday in an apartment complex in Brooklyn. He was shot multiple times in the chest, during an incident that was captured by the building’s video surveillance. The New York City Police Department has released the video last night in hopes of identifying and capturing the assailant.
According to reports, the teen was a senior at a high school for legal studies and a member of the basketball team. He was allegedly in the building to visit his girlfriend and had been carrying a bag at the time. Those who knew him described the victim as a sweet teen who was generous and helpful in the community.
In addition to the shooting, the surveillance tape also captured a clear shot of the killer exiting the building with a calm expression. He is believed to be five-feet-eight-inches in height and in his twenties. Police and authorities were alerted to the Brownsville apartment after receiving a 911 call that complained of gunfire.
Shortly after receiving the call, police discovered the eighteen-year-old suffering from multiple gunshot wounds inside the apartment on Lott Avenue among the Plaza Residences. The teen perished after arriving at Brookdale Hospital, and is believed to have suffered at least three shots to the chest. The footage of the shooting was captured on CCTV from the building’s security.
The killer was wearing a black jacket with distinctive red, white, and green stripes on the sleeves. He sported a green hood during the shooting, but removed it as he exited and was seen wearing a black doo rag. He also wore red sneakers and is captured walking closely behind the victim as both enter and exit the building’s elevator.
After following the victim, who stepped off the elevator on the fourth floor, the killer extended his arm and began to fire. The shooting occurred in the hallway and the killer can be seen reaching into his back pocket for his weapon. The killer discarded the weapon by throwing it on the floor after the killing and then exited through the elevator and out of the building.
None of the neighbors interviewed recognized the man on camera. At least one of the victim’s acquaintances believed that he could have been the subject of a setup. Many followers of the case question why the building’s security couldn’t have done more to prevent this grizzly crime. One resident claims that security workers are quick to confront inhabitants for smoking inside the building, but were suspiciously unable to do anything to save the life of the young man.
Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers. All calls and tips concerning the case will remain anonymous.
Friends and neighbors of the victim have set up a memorial. Many have claimed that the footage which captured the murder is especially chilling because it clearly shows the assailant going about his business as if nothing had happened. Within the notoriously rough community, police believe that the surveillance has successfully captured a cold-blooded killer.
