(Long Island, N.Y.) Kicking off the summer season in the Hamptons, Live @Club Starlight is Ross School’s largest fundraising gala. This year’s fundraising event included supporters interacting with celebrities during the red carpet arrivals, a cocktail reception featuring local cuisine and a silent auction.

Guests enjoyed a lavish dinner, an exhilarating performance by Cyndi Lauper, dancing, and a live auction. Club Starlight has raised over $700,000 for Ross School and the Steven J. Ross Scholarship Fund.

The Imperial Court of New York is a not-for-profit organization that has contributed and donated over a million dollars since its inception in 1986. The Court has gained recognition in the tri-state New York City region for the tireless work it has done on behalf of the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender community.

Each year supporters attend A Night of A Thousand Gowns adorned in over-the-top hairdo’s, fabulous jewels and glamorous regal attire. The Imperial Court of New York Organization has opened their hearts and donated their time and energy to raising funds for their beneficiaries.

Their members are people who have chosen to make a commitment, get involved and make a difference in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community. On Monday, April 8th, Heart A Cause hosted a charity event at the SONY Wonder Technology Lab located at 550 Madison Avenue in New York City from 5pm to 9pm. Attendees were welcomed into a futuristic world of hi-tech, sound and fashion to support Autism Awareness. Display tables featured items for purchase of art by children with autism. The event also featured artists who have been inspired by autism; trunk shows and various runway shows featuring emerging and established designers.

Guests also enjoyed a sensory-friendly short film about autistic children and a variety of videos about MyGOAL Autism and Autism Awareness at the SONY’s 73-seat theater. The theater also housed the children’s activity station featuring a face painter, puzzles, and arts and crafts. A silent auction offered goods and services ranging from a Celebrity Chef’s dinner to a day of beauty to artwork from local artists.

2013 marks the 113th anniversary of the New York International Auto Show in North America. This event is the first and largest attended auto show featuring over 1,000 automobiles plus the latest in technology, safety and innovation in nearly 900,000 sq ft.

This year’s New York International Auto Show took place at Manhattan’s Jacob Javits Center from March 29 through April 7, 2013.

On April 5th the band Milestone performed at the Blue Point in Long Beach, New York. Frequent customers enjoyed Milestone’s funky jam session along with Acoustic Artist Scott Martin.

Musically gifted with a keen sense of melody on his instrument, Scott Martin is a guitarist and songwriter best known for his work with the modern-rock group Bulletproof Messenger.

(Long Island, N.Y.) Milliners and hat lovers enjoyed an evening of champagne and edible treats while attending the National Arts Club 2nd Annual Bonnet Bash.

During the event I had a chance to chat with Laura Ashton, President of The Milliners Guild. “We’re a group of fifty independent milliners who are trying to promote handmade hats,” revealed Laura.

Inspired by Cole Porter’s song, “Night and Day” Milliners Guild members were each asked to create two fabulous hats: one for day wear and one for evening wear.

The interpretation of the challenge was presented to thirty participants in a wide range of aesthetics. The result was an enchanting and exciting visual and wearable feast for all that viewed this much publicized event.

The opening party took place on March 11, 2013 at 6 p.m. at the National Arts Club located at 15 Gramercy Park South in the Marquis Gallery.

The exhibition was open to the public and continued through the middle of March.

The Vanity Project Fall/Winter 2013

Omri and Jason met at Northwestern University. After Jason’s mother was diagnosed with breast cancer, the two designers started helping out at events for several Chicago non-profit organizations. Throughout their volunteer work, they noticed that many non-profits had ugly, uncomfortable t-shirts. T-shirts are a crucial publicity tool for non-profits. They establish conversations that spread awareness for the cause. TVP has since partnered with over 30 non-profits to help them create gear that individuals actually want to wear.

TVP creates stylish and sustainable apparel that doesn’t skimp on comfort or quality. (Long Island, N.Y.) Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week came to a close on Thursday night, February 14th, 2013. Over ninety fashion designers presented their Fall 2013 Collections at Lincoln Center from February 7th through the 14th.

Officials from IMG revealed in their closing statement, “Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week welcomed over 100,000 designers, journalists, photographers and guests from around the world. The Collections on the runway and the reaction of the audience are foretelling of a successful fall season ahead for the industry” says Jarrad Clark, Director of Global Production, IMG Fashion Events and Properties. “New York continues to be a city that sets trends and the collections at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week are certainly a barometer for what’s happening in the world.”

Participating designers traveled from Spain, Korea, Korea, France, UK, Brazil, Russia, Japan, Norway and many other countries.

Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week guests and attendees contribute over $800 million per year to the City of New York, according to the New York City Economic Development Corporation and nearly 3000 registered press and buyers representing the worldwide fashion industry.

Designers Adeam, Trina Turk, ICB by Prabal Gurung, Hernan Lander, Kaufmanfranco, Steven Alan, Adaem, DL1961, David Hart, Ian Valerdi, Second/Layer, Raif Adelberg and Alon Livne made their Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week debut in the Lincoln Center tents and for the first time ever every single runway show at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week was live streamed offering designers exposure to worldwide fashion consumers.

Timo Weiland Fall/Winter 2013 Collection

“We didn’t want to have to make them match,” Weiland revealed during our interview. The Men’s Collection featured Jackets with hexagon quilting, wool coats embellished with neckwear patterns and a sweater decorated with an image of design partner Alan Eckstein’s pet dachshund named Coconut. Add the duo’s catchy windowpane trousers and the hat collaboration with Albertus Swanepoel and the raves of compliments were evident. Very saleable, very wearable youthful men’s line of apparel.

Falguni & Shane Peacock Fall/Winter 2013

Falguni and Shane Peacock created an empire in fashion design by following their own set of rules. The secret of their success is the unique and unusual styling and attention to detail they give to each garment designed to create an essence of “Luxury”.

Designer Diane Von Furstenberg showed her Fall 2013 collection to an overcrowded house during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week held at Lincoln Center on February 10th, 2013 in Manhattan. Always famous for her “Signature Wrap Dress” the collection was inspired by the nostalgic 1970’s era complete with Disco Music.

Her Fall 2013 Collection showcased Autumn shades of coral, salmon, rust and apricot as well as nutmeg, cream and black. Hot pink and fuchsia also get paired with coral and burgundy. Animal prints, metallics, velvet and fur are also used though sparingly.

(Long Island, N.Y.) Horror aficionados attended the second annual Macabre Faire Film Festival at the Best Western Hotel in Rockville Center, New York on January 19th and 20th. The festival presented over 20 films from around the globe.

Fans came to the festival for the opportunity to meet actors, actresses, industry experts, get a behind-the-scenes look at the special effects makeup process, purchase items, and view many amateur and professional horror flicks and indy films.

The festival was produced by TwitchTwitch Productions. Founders Adam and Elsie Ginsberg accommodate those who love the scare…The thrill…The unknown…And the entertainment provided by experiencing something outrageously different than the norm. The husband-and-wife team provide unique theatrical productions, films, events, radio, videos, original music and live character appearances for all types of events.

Special Presentations at the Macabre Festival included the film “Bereavement” directed by Stevan Mena and 20th Century Fox Production “House at the End of the Street” starring Golden Globe Winner and Screen Actors Guild Winner Jennifer Lawrence directed by Mark Tonderai. Both directors discussed their films in a candid interview with me during film breaks at the festival. After seeing many of the indy and horror films during the Macabre Faire below are my top choices:

THE NOWHERE ROOM

Directed by Alessandro Mini and co-produced by Solomon Chertok starring Actor Armond Cecere, Evan Ginsburg and Actress Brandi Bravo who received Best Actress in the Shorts Category.

The synopsis of the film involves a mother awakening in a strange room and her son is missing but the only way out is to face her fears.

Director Alessandro Mini was born in Rimini, Italy, the same native city as Federico Fellini on April 14th, 1978.

His passion about art and storytelling started when he was just an adolescent growing up in Italy. After attending the University of Bologna achieving a MFA in Law Alessandro became an attorney and entrepreneur. He started his first company at the age of twenty with the goal to become wealthy and free enough to finance his own artistic projects.

Although owning and managing a company with 10 propriety shops and 30 franchises gave him a vast fortune, it gave him virtually no the time to do anything else.

Frustrated with his lack of time to develop his films he decided to attend the New York Film Academy in New York in 2010 where he started shooting movies. After completing his graduation he went back to Italy to sell his companies and dedicate his time to film-making.

CLIVE UNGER’S MADAME X

Directed by Brian DeCicco co-produced by Solomon Chertok starring Horror Scream Queens Debbie D and Tina Krause

The film depicts an artist’s descent into madness.

Director Brian DeCicco was born in Colonia, New Jersey in 1979. In 2001 he graduated from Tyler School of Art at Temple University with a BFA in Sculpture. While working on a video project, Brian discovered his love for film and began making art films. Upon graduation, Brian DeCicco attended New York Film Academy where his love of film solidified. After graduating Brian wrote the feature film ” The Charnel House” and wrote, directed, and edited the Short Film “Clive Unger’s Madame X”.

Actor/Director Edward X. Young studied film & television production, acting, and journalism at Seton Hall University. He accomplished his acting skills as a member of the R.I.S.K. Improvisational Theatre Group under the tutelage of Fabir Rodriguez-Ammirato. As a young actor, he performed on-stage in the New York Metropolitan Area in productions of “Amadeus,” “Dracula,” “Children of a Lesser God,” “True West,” “The Boys Next Door,” and “Modigliani”. He also worked in the theater as a director, staging productions of “Waiting for Godot,” “Hurlyburly,” “Lunchtime,” and “Wait Until Dark.”

CAESAR & OTTO’S DEADLY XMAS

Directed by Dave Campfield, Winner of Best Screenplay

Snyopsis: Horror/Comedy – A disgruntled employee wearing a Bad Santa Suit becomes a deranged serial killer and finds himself the perfect patsies!

After briefly studying film at the College of Santa Fe in New Mexico, Dave Campfield made the difficult decision to leave pursuing his film career.

On the basis of his first script, Campfield won over a Hollywood agent. However, while receiving across the board positive reviews from the studios, the script remained in limbo. Having grown disheartened with Hollywood gridlock, Campfield opted to go it alone and produce a feature himself. That film, Dark Chamber, received a successful run in the film festivals and was picked up for distribution by Pop Cinema for a February 2008 release.

After signing the deal with Pop Cinema, Campfield soon inked a deal on another feature, Caesar and Otto’s Summer Camp Massacre. A throwback to the Comedy/Horror cross-overs of the 40s and 50s, the film co-stars horror icons Felissa Rose, Brinke Stevens and Joe Estevez. It received a limited theatrical run in September 2011 followed by a DVD release.

The festival concluded with an awards ceremony celebrating the achievements of the filmmakers, screenwriters, special effects experts and actors.

The event celebrated the life and accomplishments of public relations maven and esteemed entrepreneur Billie Mitchell.

Ms. Mitchell has an extensive resume including the production of a Grammy’s afterparty event for Sean “P. Diddy” Combs at the Playboy Mansion. Ms. Mitchell has also been a publicist/event coordinator for Just Jenn Productions, producers of VH1’s “Mob Wives” and the coordination of NY Knicks star, Iman Shupert’s birthday event. Mitchell has also worked on projects including the Indashio/Lifetime TV and Investigation Discovery channels and as the casting director of numerous music videos, featuring Maino, Swizz Beats, Jadakiss, Red Café, Roscoe Dash and Juelz Santana.
