Fashion Designer Grace Edwards, a Philippine born self-taught artist, and a New York resident since 2001, began her career creating one-of-a-kind avant-garde club wear. Thought of as an underground designer, she liked the idea of appealing to the nightlife crowds around the world. “My clothes are meant to move and flow while on a dance floor in New York, Manila, London, and Tokyo”. Grace’s philosophy is that ‘fashion design comes from the soul and is a natural reflection of one’s past experiences’.

In between fashion shows I had a chance to interview Designer Maria Aristidou backstage. Maria was born in Limassol, Cyprus. In 1991 Maria attended a four-year Bachelor of Commerce degree in Management and Economics at the University of Guelph, Canada. The first degree was followed with a Masters Degree in Career Guidance at the University of Reading, United Kingdom. From the early years of her studies in Economics she discovered and developed a great persistence and her passion in fashion design.

In June 1996, after her first-degree graduation, she returned to Cyprus to work as an assistant manager at a well-known franchise-clothing store. In early 1997, after her parents’ and friends’ encouragement, she competed in CyMode’97 (a competition for young Cypriot fashion designers organized by the Cyprus Chambers of Commerce). Maria was the only self-learner among the 16 contestants that participated in the competition. Her catwalk presentation of three ensembles won her second place in the competition and she was quickly on her way to a career in high-fashion.
In 1997 Maria attended one-year long night classes at “Katrin Fashion Designing School” in Limassol, Cyprus where she was introduced to patterning and cutting. Finally in 2000 she moved back to Cyprus evolving into a full fledged designing freelancer working for both men and womenswear. Another up and coming designer, Sharon E Clarke also showcased her spectacular collection.
Victoria Secret Model and Cover Girl Cynthia Kirchner opened and closed both shows strutting down the catwalk. “I love fashion shows, there so much fun. The designers were so amazing tonight and I am honored to be here,” expressed Ms. Kirschner. Cynthia started modeling in 2002. She had been continually asked by people to model, so she decided to approach agencies by herself. She signed with Nous Models in LA and she booked Guess, Abercrombie and Fitch her first week, the rest is history. Cynthia Lives in Manhattan with her adorable teacup champagne poodle Bella and Travels frequently between Paris, London and Ireland. Besides modeling, she is currently working on movie projects.

As First Lady Jacqueliine Kennedy brought her love of glamor, elegance, couture fashion, art, music and theatre to the American identity. Her poise and natural composure endeared her forever in the hearts of the American people. We will never forget the images of her broadcasted all over the world upon the death of her husband. Joyce revealed the next issue will be the royal issue. Princess Diana’s beautiful image will be on the cover of the next issue. “What made you decide to have Princess Diana on the cover,” I asked. “She inspired a lot of people to go beyond just desiring wealth by giving back. It’s great to put your very best outfit on and your most wonderful jewelry and still help somebody else. Princess Diana was a wonderful role model,” Joyce expressed.
