The latest hot gossip around town is that Stunning Super Model Carol Alt latest controversial book “Eating in the Raw” is on the Best Sellers List. The glamorous Alt is best known for gracing more than 800 magazine covers but Super model Carol Alt is so much more. I had the pleasure of interviewing charming Carol Alt on several occasions at the Goldmember Premier and on the red carpet at the Christopher Reeve Paralysis Foundation.
More importantly Carol Alt is a Long Island Girl.
Carol grew up in Flushing Queens. Her family later moved further east in Nassau County to East Williston Park an upscale Nassau County town where she attended Wheatley High School and then later Hofstra University on a ROTC Scholarship. Her fondest memories are seeing a Bob Dylan concert at the Nassau Coliseum and her first concert was the Beach Boys. She mentions in a recent article “The thing about Long Island is you have a lot of little communities so even though it’s a large place, you really feel like your living in a small town.”

Alt is best known for gracing more than 800 magazine covers.
She was a waitress at a restaurant called Steer Barn when a famous photographer discovered her. He had just gotten off the Long Island Expressway because he was hungry and Carol was waiting on him. He noticed her captivating beauty and that she was extremely photogenic. He told her to come into the city and see some influential people he knew in the modeling industry. Elite models sent her to a famous fashion editor for her first gosee who didn’t think she was anything special, but the photographer fought her on it and she got the photo shoot. After that the rest is history.
Ms. Alt has had many astounding accomplishments throughout her glamorous life, not only is she a successful supermodel but she has acted in many films and won several awards as an actress, especially in Europe. She also is an entrepreneur, the head of a company and an author.
Her book Eating in the Raw: A beginners Guide to getting Slimmer, Healthier and Looking Younger has become a national best seller. The reason for writing the book came when she was on a photo shoot in the rainforest. When she arrived she was fine but the following morning, she woke up and looked four months pregnant as a result of flying in an airplane all night. Beautiful Carol had some digestion problems that were making her feel poorly and as a result of bad eating habits, she decided to go to a doctor, Timothy Brantley that a friend recommended she see. Based on what she told him she was eating, his solution was all about going raw. Today there are restaurants and books and places that cater to people who eat this way. Ten years ago this was not the case.

Carol grew up in Flushing Queens.
Basically there are four things that happen when you eat cooked food:
- It changes an alkaline food to acid;
- It changes the molecular structure;
- It destroys enzymes;
- It destroys many of the vitamins and minerals
Her book, “Eating in the Raw” is a resource guide. Besides telling the journey of her life, the book offers lists of places one can go to find the foods one needs to eat well. There are recipes and an index of locations of places to find almost anything one needs to eat in the raw.
