News: Couple Gunned Down in Brooklyn
(Long Island, N.Y.) A twenty-two-year-old mother was shot three times in the head, neck, and chest in a courtyard of Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. The incident occurred at five in the morning on Sunday after she returned from a party with her boyfriend. According to friends and family, she was pregnant at the time of the incident.
The woman and her boyfriend were pronounced dead at the scene. The boyfriend’s thirty-year-old brother was also shot, and was brought to Kings County Hospital Center in East Flatbush, Brooklyn. Reports stated that he had thirteen prior arrests and was in critical condition after the shooting.
The boyfriend had a rap sheet of over twenty prior arrests including charges of murder, weapons possession, and drugs. Friends and family of the young woman claimed that he was bad news and that they often urged her to leave him. Some believe that her boyfriend engaged in an altercation earlier in the evening with the alleged gunman.
The incident occurred at the Sheepshead Bay Housing Complex where the female victim lived with her parents and her five-year-old daughter. The development is located on Avenue W near Nostrand Avenue. According to the placement of shell casings, police believe that her boyfriend was the intended target and that the victims tried to run from the line of shooting.
Likewise, the young woman’s parents believe that their daughter had no enemies and claimed that one of her goals was to help handicapped children. She worked as a home health worker, and was described as a generous and outgoing person. Friends and family claimed that she was a good mother and a devoted friend.
According to reports, more than a dozen shots were fired at the trio. Investigators are treating the Sheepshead Bay Houses as a crime scene. Police and authorities on the case claimed that the young woman fell near a bench close to her boyfriend. Reports stated that the pair was shot from point blank range.
The victim’s forty-four-year-old mother was sleeping inside her apartment when she awoke from the gunshots coming from the courtyard. She claimed to have heard them at fifteen minutes past five that morning and grew alarmed from the screaming that followed. She claimed that her other daughter told her someone was dead and that witnesses were chanting the victim’s name.
No arrests were made as of the beginning of the week and authorities on the case claimed that the investigation is ongoing. Though police and detectives believe that the woman’s boyfriend was the intended target of the shooting, they are continuing to search for all possible motives in the case.
It’s unclear whether investigators have any leads or suspects. Family members and friends of the female victim claimed that the couple had been dating for quite some time.
