News: Long Island Serial Killer
(Long Island, N.Y.) It’s been over a year since missing person Shannan Gilbert disappeared from an Oak Beach gated community, but “48 Hour Mystery” revealed new details about her case. Viewers learned, during the TV special, about the specific events that occurred prior to Gilbert’s disappearance and the conflicting stories of those involved. The program dedicated to the Long Island Serial Killer spoke with Gilbert’s driver, client, and a doctor that was included in her case.
Much of the television program was dedicated to exposing the lack of concern police and authorities gave to the missing escort. Friends and family members of Gilbert believed that her profession influenced the search, and that a more timely investigation would have been conducted if it weren’t for her prior career choices. Investigators on the case went as far as saying that Gilbert’s was a normal missing person case.
The host of the television special questioned the police statement, saying that a normal missing person case does not involve the phrase “they’re trying to kill me.” Nonetheless, family members and friends of the Gilgo Beach victims claimed that they’re not going to stop until Gilbert is brought home. The program, which aired Tuesday night at 10 PM on CBS, also stated that the security videos from the gated Oak Beach community had been recorded over when investigators attempted to investigate Gilbert’s case.
Gilbert’s driver claimed to have looked for her for an hour after realizing that she had not returned from her destination. The TV special’s host questioned why the driver waited so little time, especially under the circumstance that he had been hired to ensure Gilbert’s safe transportation to and from the client’s home. The neighbor, who had witnessed Gilbert’s screams for help, had informed the driver that he called for emergency services.
It was then that the driver told the neighbor that he shouldn’t have called police, and reports stated that he was a prior convicted felon. The driver had been charged with conspiracy to use a passport when he tried to bring in an Asian woman from overseas. In regards to Gilbert’s case, and the suspicion of foul play, he claimed to have passed the administered polygraph examination with flying colors.
The TVs special also spoke with the client who claimed he didn’t solicit Gilbert for sex. Instead, he stated that he sought companionship from the missing girl, making authorities wonder why he booked two hours with her. Gilbert wound up staying for three, and the client allegedly refused to pay what she had asked for.
Gilbert’s call to emergency services came from inside the client’s home. The client claimed to have never hurt her and just wanted her to leave. He even said that he brought in her driver to help handle the situation; he last saw Gilbert running into his neighbor’s yard.
Police and authorities on the case are unsure if Gilbert’s missing person investigation is the key to catching the Long Island Serial Killer. They have not ruled out whether Gilbert’s case is coincidental and unrelated to that of the Long Island Serial Killer. Reports stated that police officials believe Gilbert’s case does not fit the pattern of the four victims who were found murdered in the Gilgo Beach brush.
