News: NYC Tour Bus Crash
(Long Island, N.Y.) A tour bus crashed at noon on Wednesday as it was traveling from New York City to Washington D.C. Reports stated that it left Brooklyn about an hour earlier and would have been used for sightseeing once it reached its destination. The tour bus company is called DC Trails Incorporated and is based out of Virginia.
The accident occurred on the New Jersey Turnpike when the bus crashed into a tractor trailer. The collision happened in South New Brunswick, New Jersey and involved fifty-three passengers onboard the bus. The fifty-two-year-old bus driver was killed in the impact.
Twelve other passengers were injured, two of whom were hospitalized in serious condition. The rest suffered from minor injuries, and reports stated that the driver had been employed in the business for over a decade. He had no violations on his record or commercial driver’s license.
The driver has not yet been identified, but sources claimed that he was taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital. He perished shortly after arrival, and police and authorities are investigating the accident. Reports stated that the vehicle had been traveling in the southbound lanes.
Some followers of the case have wondered if any other vehicles were involved in the collision. The tour bus allegedly made a stop in Manhattan on the way to Washington D.C. Sources reported that delays resulted from the accident along the New Jersey Turnpike and other nearby roadways.
This incident has reminded many Long Islanders of the horrific bus crashes that occurred last March. Fifteen people were killed in a tour bus collision in which the vehicle was headed for New York City. Traveling on I-95, the ill-fated bus was headed for Chinatown in Manhattan.
There were thirty passengers aboard the bus that crashed in March after coming from the Mohegan Sun Casino in Connecticut. Reports stated that many of the passengers had been sleeping before the vehicle skidded and flipped over. The bus company was called World Wide Tours and based in Brooklyn.
The second bus crash occurred shortly after and involved a private charter bus from New York City’s Chinatown. The bus was headed to Philadelphia and also crashed on the New Jersey Turnpike. Sources claimed that at least forty passengers were aboard the vehicle.
Two people were killed in the accident, including the bus driver. A twenty-year-old passenger perished and two others were hospitalized in critical condition as a result of the crash.
