(Long Island, NY) Homicide Squad detectives report the details of a Fatal Vehicular Accident involving a pedestrian that occurred on Wednesday, July 20, 2016 at 11:58 pm in Westbury.
According to detectives, while on foot attempting to cross Old Country Road from the north side to the south side, east of holy Rood Cemetery by Salisbury Park Drive, Diego Salazar Tavares, 21, from Jackson Heights was struck by an eastbound 2014 Kia driven by a 26 year old male.

As a result of the collision Tavares suffered multiple trauma injuries and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. The Kia was brake and safety checked at the scene and released back to the owner who suffered no injuries as a result of this incident.
On Thursday, July 21, 2016, Tavares was pronounced deceased as a result of his injuries.
The investigation into this non-criminal accident continues.
