Briarcliffe College Opens Art Gallery at Bethpage Location
(BETHPAGE, N.Y.) — Briarcliffe College has announced the opening of a permanent art gallery at its Bethpage location at 1055 Stewart Avenue. The first installation showcases the work of Briarcliffe College faculty covering illustration, fine and graphics arts, sculpture, photography, and printmaking. The gallery will be open to the general public during the College’s regular Monday to Saturday business hours, with free admission and parking. The public is also invited to the grand opening of the art gallery and reception for the faculty exhibit on Thursday April 29 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The faculty exhibit runs from April 26 through July 8, followed by “The Living Classroom” scheduled to begin on July 15.
“Briarcliffe College offers a comprehensive arts study program and our new art gallery is an effective extension of our curriculum, as well as a vital commitment to the community,” said Briarcliffe College President Dr. George Santiago, Jr. “Our upcoming schedule includes not only the work of Briarcliffe College students and faculty, but exciting artists from the metro area working in various mediums.”
According to Briarcliffe College Chair of Graphic Design and Digital Photography Karyn Cernera, “The 1,000 square-foot gallery will house at least five exhibits annually and Briarcliffe College will make the space available to local artists and arts associations for both exhibitions and screening events such as films and lectures.”
Karen Pellecchia, Briarcliffe College Professor of Painting and Drawing described the renovation of the space dedicated to the new art gallery: “To witness the transformation of two academic classrooms into a state-of-the art gallery and a multimedia screening room dedicated to the visual arts, has been personally rewarding as both an educator and fine artist. The magnitude of possibilities for our students has increased.”
