Rally held on eve of Island-wide event September 22
(Long Island, NY) Farmingdale State College will join the global effort to reduce vehicle miles and carbon emissions with a rally on Wednesday, September 21 in support of the 4th Annual Car Free Day LI.
Car Free Day will be observed worldwide on Thursday, September 22.
The rally is scheduled for 11 a.m. – 1 p.m., on the patio behind the Campus Center. It will feature education about sustainable transportation choices, and event participants will be asked to pledge to be car-free or car-light on September 22.

In support of the Island-wide event, the rally will also featureresources provided by organizations including 511NYRideshare, Transit Solutions, the Sierra Club of Long Island, Sustainable LI, and Northwell Health. Guest speakers will address issues such as the environmental, economic, and health impacts of single-occupancy vehicles.

We can all agree that reducing vehicle traffic is good for the environment and has positive long-term effects.”
The latest Farmingdale State College initiative to reducevehicle miles is a courtesyshuttle service available to students, faculty and staff. The RAM Shuttle runs weekdays from 8 a.m. – 6 p.m., and makes stops at the Farmingdale LIRR station and the college’s Aviation Center on Route 110.
Car Free Day LIis supported by a broad-based group of Long Island leaders from major employers; business, civic and environmental groups; universities, and municipalities. Commuters, students and families can pledge to go car-free or car-lite at the Car Free Day LI website (http://carfreedayli.com/pledge/). Participants are also eligible to win raffle prizes, including a Wine Country bike tour, theater tickets, gift cards, bicycles, tickets to a New York Cosmos game and more.
