Event Co-Sponsored by the Long Island Dietetic Association as Part of National Nutrition Month
(Long Island, NY) Farmingdale State College’sTheresa Patnode-Santmann School of Health Sciences and the Long Island Dietetic Association are teaming up for the 3rd Annual Food and Nutrition Expo, on Saturday, March 12.
The event – part of National Nutrition Month –will be held in Farmingdale’s Campus Center Ballroom A, from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. The Expo is open to the public, free of charge. Donations of non-perishable food for Island Harvest are encouraged.
The Expo will include nutrition information, free snack samples, food demonstrations, raffles, health screenings, information display tables, and more. Dietitian nutritionists and dietetic technicians will be on hand, joined by dietetic, dental, nursing and medical lab technology students from the School of Health Sciences.
“Whether it’s blood pressure screenings, diabetes risk-assessment screening, or emphasizing the importance of dental health, our students are active in promoting health within the communities that Farmingdale State College serves,” says Monica Diamond-Caravella, professor in Farmingdale’s nursing department.

School of Health Sciences
The Theresa Patnode Santmann School of Health Sciences enrolls over 650 students in Nursing (BS), Dental Hygiene (BS and AS), and Medical Technology (BS and AS). Students learn from distinguished faculty and staff using the latest teaching tools such as the Dental Hygiene Care Center and Sim-Man. The School’s extensive community involvement includes Give Kids a Smile, Give Veterans a Smile, Go Red Day to reduce female heart disease, the Dominic Murray Foundation to detect heart abnormalities and prevent SCA, Health and Wellness Fair, Great American Smoke Out, Sjogren’s Walk, Oral Cancer Walk, and Head Start. Students and faculty volunteer at soup kitchens, and community blood pressure checkups. Department tours are offered to local schools and numerous presentations regarding health care to local civic/church/senior organizations.
