(Long Island, NY) The Third Squad reports the arrest of a New Cassel man for Assault which occurred on Thursday, April 28, 2016 at 6:58 p.m. in New Cassel.
According to detectives, William O. Diaz, 23, was involved in a verbal argument with two male neighbors ages 18 and 24 in front of his residence. The argument escalated and Diaz stabbed the 18 year old male with a metal landscape rod causing a laceration to his abdomen. He then struck the second male in the head causing a laceration.

Both victims were transported to a local hospital for treatment of their injuries. Third Precinct officers responded and placed Diaz under arrest without incident.
Diaz is charged with two counts of Assault 2nd degree and one count of Possession of a Dangerous Weapon 4th degree. He will be arraigned on Friday, April 29, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
