October 8 Reading Is the Second Event in the Fall Visiting Writers Program
(Long Island, NY) Poet Douglas Basford will read from his collected works at Farmingdale State College on Thursday, October 8. The reading – the second event in the fall Visiting Writers Program – will be held in the University Club, Knapp Hall, at 11 a.m. The public is invited and the event is free.

Basford’s poetry, translations and critical prose have appeared in publications such as Poetry, Western Humanities Review, Subtropics, and American Poetry Review. He has received awards from the National Endowment for the Arts, the National Endowment for the Humanities, and the Santa Fe Art Institute. He teaches writing and oversees the Composition Program at the University of Buffalo; co-edits the online poetry journal Unsplendid; and is the Italian language editor for Coeur Publishing. He was a Paumanok Award runner-up in 2014.
The final event in the fall series features poet/essayist Sherry B. Hanson on November 12.
Farmingdale’s Visiting Writers Program has featured readings by more than 150 American and international authors. The program highlights the importance of literature to education and culture. The annual Paumanok Award is an international award judged by faculty in Farmingdale’s English/Humanities department.
