(Long Island, NY) The First Squad reports an arrest for Grand Larceny on Saturday, April 30, 2016 at 7:29 p.m. in Hempstead.
According to detectives, on Saturday, April 30, 2016 a female victim, 51, attempted to purchase a cell phone that she had seen for sale online from an unknown male. She met the suspect on the street on Sterling Street in Uniondale and gave him $200 for the phone.

The suspect pushed the victim and fled the scene with the money and the phone. A short time later the victim saw the same phone for sale online. She set up a meeting later in the day on Searing Street in Hempstead to buy the phone and notified First Precinct officers.
The officers were at this location when they observed Jahmani R. Harleston, 17, of Uniondale walking towards their vehicle. When the officers identified themselves, Harleston ran from them and after a short foot pursuit was stopped in the rear of an Elmwood Avenue home. After a struggle, the suspect was placed into custody.
Harleston is charged with Grand Larceny 4th degree and Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned on May 1, 2016 at First District Court in Hempstead.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
