(Long Island, NY) Today’s decision follows a years-long review conducted by the Department of Environmental Conservation and Department of Health and yet there was little additional information presented that we didn’t already know. Despite protests to the contrary, it appears that politics, not science, shaped this decision.
The decision implies that at least 30 other states, Senator Schumer and the Obama Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency are wrong about the health impacts and do not care about the well-being of millions of American citizens, and discounts the successes that are occurring in Pennsylvania and elsewhere.
This Executive decision extinguishes the hope that existed for many hardworking Southern Tier families, and is a huge missed opportunity for Upstate New York. The answer to rural poverty is not government hand outs; it’s government getting out of the way and allowing the private sector to create real and permanent high-paying jobs.
