(Long Island, NY) The Homicide Squad reports the arrest of a man for a Homicide that occurred on June 13, 1999 in Hicksville.
According to detectives, on June 13, 1999 Balkumar Singh, 38 of Trinidad was a guest at a wedding being held at the Masonic Temple 18 West Nicholai Street in Hicksville when he was involved in a verbal argument with another guest Abzal Khan, 19 of Queens. As Khan stood outside the temple Singh approached armed with an automatic hand gun and shot the victim multiple times before fleeing the scene.

On March 27, 2015 Singh was located in Trinidad and placed in custody by the Trinidadian police’s Interpol office. The United States Marshals office made the arrangements for Singh’s extradition back to the United States which was executed on Friday, August 14, 2015 by U.S. Marshals with the assistance of Nassau County Homicide Squad Detectives.
Singh is charged with Murder 2nd degree and will be arraigned on Monday, August 17, 2015 at County Court.
The fact that a defendant has been charged with a crime is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent unless proven guilty. Defendants are entitled to a fair trial with the burden on the prosecution to prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
