(Long Island, N.Y.) Three women have been arrested Tuesday evening by Nassau County Police Officers for assaulting an eleven-year-old girl and her thirty-nine-year-old mother. The women’s ages vary from seventeen to twenty-four, and it’s unsure what the motive was for their violent offense. The relations between the victims and the women is not yet known, but is expected to be learned as the case is investigated.
Members of the Nassau County Police Department’s Third Squad arrested the three women for assault after they entered the victims’ home. The home was located in New Cassel, but some of the women came from Bay Shore and Valley Stream. After entering the home they allegedly beat the thirty-nine-year-old woman and her preteen daughter.
The young girl suffered from a laceration to her left cheek and was bruised along her forehead and nose. The mother experienced pain in her right shoulder and right arm as a result of the battery. Both mother and daughter were taken to Nassau University Medical Center to be treated.
The incident occurred around six-thirty Tuesday evening after the three women allegedly yelled for the girl to come out of the house and fight them. After chanting, the belligerent trio pushed open the front door of the New Cassel home and accosted the woman and her daughter. It’s unsure whether they attempted to vandalize the property.
All three of the women were arrested after trying to flee the area. They were charged with assault, burglary, and endangering the welfare of the child. Their arraignment was held at the First District Court in Hempstead.
In other news, the MTA Officer responsible for shooting a forty-year-old police officer in a friendly-fire incident has returned to work. The incident occurred on March 12th in Massapequa Park after officers responded to a call about a deranged man with knives. The man was a twenty-one-year-old resident of the area who had terrorized an elderly woman by jumping on her vehicle with knives.
After the man fled to his nearby home, two sets of officers responded to the call. The first set was MTA Officers, who had been in the area to repair a stuck elevator at a nearby Long Island Rail Road station. They removed the man’s parents from the home and proceeded to apprehend him.
The man was shot seven times after he lunged at the officers with knives and later died. Minutes later, the forty-year-old officer, who was an eight-year member of the Bureau of Special Operations, arrived in plainclothes and an unmarked car. Reports stated that he was carrying a rifle when he approached the area.
The twelve-year-veteran officer was shot and killed in a case of mistaken identity. He is survived by his wife, two young sons, and fellow fireman volunteers at the Selden Fire Department. Reports stated that the MTA Officer returned to work on April 11th without a gun after being placed on sick leave, and has been put on restricted and light duty.
