(Long Island, N.Y.) It gives me great pleasure to fill you in on a nationwide shopping website that strives to save us money in a troubled economy–with a heart-warming (and important) twist. The founder, a Long Island resident, loses his father to cancer, and creates a cancer donation program on the site in honor of him, to raise money for cancer research.
Hoopla Doopla, Inc., www.hoopladoopla.com, was launched in February, 2009 and it’s worth taking a closer look at.
Here’s the Scoop:
Hoopla Doopla is a cash back website that has the latest coupons and discounts from over 1300 online merchants. Members join for free and get cash back on purchases made through Hoopla Doopla at these merchants websites. Hoopla Doopla, puts money in peoples pockets, especially in a troubled economy.
Shop for a Cure is a Hoopla Doopla program that allows members to donate a percentage of their cash back earnings to raise money for cancer research. In addition, Hoopla Doopla matches 10% of the total member contributions each quarter.
How it Works
Hoopla Doopla, Inc. is partnered with companies worldwide, to bring you the latest online coupons, bargains, and promotions they currently have to offer. By shopping these merchants through our site, we get paid a marketing commission for each purchase you make. More than half of that commission goes back to you, IN CASH! It’s that simple.
As a Hoopla Doopla member, you get discounts and earn cash back on all purchases you make shopping our merchants. By giving you the option to participate in the Shop for a Cure program, Hoopla Doopla allows you to donate a percentage of your cash back earnings to cancer research.
If you participate in the program, your donations are removed from your cash back payment at the end of each quarter before your it is sent to you. For example. If you earn $100 in cash back in a particular quarter, and your specified contribution is 20%, we remove $20 from your earnings. You then receive $80, and $20 gets donated to The American Cancer Society.
How it Got Started
“The loss of my father to lung cancer is the inspiration for the Shop for a Cure program on Hoopla Doopla,” says Frank DeBlasi, president and founder.
“Millions of people suffer, or know someone who has lost a loved one to some form of cancer. The passing of my father really hit home, and I felt I wanted to take some form of action to help reduce the risk of others possibly having to experience a loss from cancer,” says DeBlasi.
“Can a common, everyday task such as shopping online help save lives? You bet. That’s what our “Shop for a Cure” program is all about.”
Good to Know
Hoopla Doopla MATCHES its member contributions. This is what is really behind the whole Shop for a Cure idea, and its shows that the company cares as well, not that it just allows its members to put up the donations. The idea that the more the members put in, the more the company does encourages the shoppers who participate to put in more for the cause.
Also noteworthy: DeBlasi says you’ll earn money for shopping through us, and you choose what percentage of their earnings go into the program, if you decide to contribute. It is optional and you only participate if you want to.
“Times are hard right now,” says DeBlasi, “and putting money in peoples pockets for doing their regular everyday shopping is a great thing.”
