News: Star Attorney For Alleged Medford Shooter
(Long Island, N.Y.) The thirty-three-year-old Medford resident accused of murdering four people in a pharmacy robbery has acquired a high-profile lawyer. The suspected shooter had been represented by a court-appointed legal aid attorney after his arrest for the robbery/shooting. Since his stay in a Suffolk County correctional facility, the alleged gunman has received new representation.
Reports stated that the suspect shooter was led into a courthouse in Central Islip yesterday for his arraignment following his stay at the Fifth Precinct in Patchogue. Since the incident, which occurred last Father’s Day, what is being known as the Medford Massacre has captured national media attention. Many sources are labeling the killings as the worst cold-blooded crime since the Long Island Rail Road shootings that occurred in the early nineties.
The suspect’s new lawyer, Eric Naiburg, is from Central Islip and has been a defense attorney for many years. He has specialized in high profile cases, including that of the infamous Amy Fisher. He has also represented a nurse known as the “Angel of Death” in a case from 1987 and a man on trial for raping several women on the South Shore of Long Island during the eighties. The man was convicted for the crimes he committed against the victims in 1988.
The “Angel of Death” case involved a nurse who was on trial for killing four patients with lethal injections. Another case involving a teenager from Northport was represented by the same attorney. The teen was one of three on trial for killing a peer during a satanic ritual in 1984.
The most infamous case, involving the affair between Amy Fisher and Joey Buttafuoco, was tried after Fisher allegedly shot Buttafuoco’s wife in the head in 1992. Mary Jo Buttafuoco was shot at her home in Massapequa. Fisher had been having an affair with her husband while he owned an auto shop.
Fisher was just a teenager during the time of the incident and the Buttafuocos later divorced after moving to California. The husband served time in jail for statutory rape and Fisher went on to become an advice columnist. Reports also stated that Fisher eventually began a career in the porn industry.
The alleged shooter in the robbery of the Medford pharmacy has made headlines recently for his potential service as a juror in a Suffolk County Court. Since its publication, the story has been followed by many Long Islanders who have felt that his rights as a citizen should correspond to responsibilities. Likewise, many have claimed that he should not have been excused from the public service.
The suspect had informed the Suffolk County Commissioner of Jurors that he wished to be excused from service and avoid future legal troubles. Some have stated that a jury of peers should include the suspect, being that he is deemed innocent until proven guilty. If the suspect is found guilty of a felony crime, he will not be eligible for jury service.
