News: Suicide Watch For Brooklyn Boy’s Killer
(Long Island, N.Y.) The thirty-five-year-old man arrested for the killing and dismembering of an eight-year-old boy from Borough Park, Brooklyn was placed on suicide watch. Reports stated that the alleged killer has been given round-the-clock supervision while being placed behind bars. Though he had been previously staying at Bellevue hospital, he was moved to Rikers Island and placed inside a holding cell.
Such a move was expected from police and authorities, as many followers of the case anticipated the transfer. The suspected killer had been held at Bellevue to undertake psychiatric evaluations from medical experts. He was later deemed fit to stand trial, though his team of defense attorneys have maintained that he does suffer from psychiatric disorders and mental illness.
According to sources, the thirty-five-year-old confessed child killer has been separated from other inmates. Reports stated that his lawyers advocated on his behalf in an attempt to keep him out of the institution. They claimed that his safety was in jeopardy while being locked up due to the consciousness of his case.
Some reports stated that he had been casual in his mannerisms while describing his murderous actions against the helpless boy. He is noted for keeping his head down and appearing unemotional during his series of public appearances and court proceedings. Some wonder if his behavior is an attempt to adhere to the possible insanity defense he may use at his trial.
Some sources claimed that his behavior was odd while heading to Central Booking on the charges of murdering the child. Reports stated that those who interacted with the alleged killer had described him as overly talkative. He went as far as attempting to rationalize why he had been sweating when officers accosted him, stating that he couldn’t have the air conditioner on.
He later stated that the refrigerator had been running and he was afraid of blowing the circuit. The eight-year-old’s severed feet were found inside the freezer in the suspected killer’s Brooklyn apartment. The alleged murderer also revealed to investigators that he had showered twice after dismembering the boy.
According to reports, the suspect told detectives that he was on a first-name basis with the child and had referred to him as “Leiby.” Police and authorities on the case noticed the suspect’s speech when he had been asked to reveal the circumstances leading to the boy’s death. Records indicated that in the hours before the gruesome act of murder, the boy had been called by his first name.
The alleged killer claimed to have had no affiliation with Patrick Alford, a child who vanished from foster care in January of last year. Nonetheless, followers of the case have wondered what other missing children’s reports could be linked to the suspected killer. Reports stated that his next court appearance will come from video hookup on October 14th.
