Community Programs Provided by the Long Island Philharmonic
Community service is an extremely important concept and one individuals should engage in whenever it may be possible to do so. Frequently organizations will donate their time, effort and money to a good cause. The Long Island Philharmonic is one of these organizations as it provides a wealth of community programs to the Long Island community. These programs will be described in more detail below.
Random Acts of Music
The Random Acts of Music program is one where the main focus is bringing music into the lives of others. One group in particular which benefits from the Random Acts of Music program is the Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf. The Long Island Philharmonic makes visits to the school to help students hear the music through other ways than via the ears (such as vibration, for example). Those students who have cochlear implants may even be hearing music for the first time when the Random Acts of Music program comes to their school. In addition to the Mill Neck Manor School for the Deaf visits, the Random Acts of Music program also takes its music to hospitals, hospices, community organizations and senior centers, to name just a few. This program focuses on helping individuals realize the importance and overall healing power of music.
HeartStrings
Another community program which is hosted by the Long Island Philharmonic is HeartStrings. The purpose behind the HeartStrings program is to make Philharmonic concert tickets available to those individuals who may be unable to afford the tickets. Local businesses help with this program and the results thereof are wonderful. The Long Island Philharmonic is something which all individuals should have a chance to experience and the HeartStrings programs makes this dream a reality by offering tickets to those who may not be able to afford them otherwise.
These are just two of many community programs which the Long Island Philharmonic is involved with each year. It is wonderful to see an established organization such as this one taking the necessary steps to help their fellow citizens.
