News: TV Special On Long Island Serial Killer
(Long Island, N.Y.) The “48 Hours Mystery” Television Series is hosting a special about the Long Island Serial Killer. The program will air on Tuesday, July 12th at 10pm Eastern Standard Time and broadcast an all-new show with new developments in the case. The Suffolk County Police Commissioner claimed that though authorities are making progress, an arrest is not likely to occur in the immediate future.
Police and authorities on the case are still questioning the whereabouts of missing person Shannon Gilbert, and have stated that they have no knowledge about her possible location. The television special will show the profiles of each of the four victims found in December along Long Island’s South Shore. The women, who all suffered similar deaths, are likely the victims of a single serial killer.
The show will also comment on Gilbert’s activities prior to her disappearance on May 1st of last year. On the night of her disappearance she was seen running and screaming within an Oak Beach gated community. The special will air accounts of her driver and client, who are some of the last people to have seen her before she vanished.
Accounts from an Oak Beach doctor, who was the former director of Suffolk County emergency services, will also be shown. Reports stated that he ran the halfway house for runaway children that Gilbert visited on the day she disappeared. Gilbert allegedly left with her driver, but police have stated that none of the men have been listed as suspects.
One source claimed that the doctor informed Gilbert’s mother of the visit shortly after her daughter disappeared but later denied the woman’s account. Gilbert’s mother, located in upstate Ellenville, told a different story. The doctor admitted to the phone call on May 6th, but was requested to do so from Gilbert’s boyfriend, who had been searching for her at Oak Beach.
The doctor claimed that he spoke with Gilbert’s mother for less than four minutes and only offered to help as a board member of the Oak Beach Homeowners Association. He denied having seen her that evening as well as offering her assistance. Nonetheless, Suffolk County Police Officers searched his home with cadaver dogs and many have wondered about his activities during the day that Gilbert went missing. The search, which turned up nothing, was conducted earlier this year.
Followers of the case have also wondered about a second man that was said to have been present on the night of Gilbert’s disappearance. Some sources stated that Gilbert screamed “they are trying to kill me” while seeking help from residents in the area. Many believe that the “they” could refer to the man who entertained Gilbert along with the client.
Tomorrow’s television special will also cover how the possible serial killer terrorized his victim’s loved ones with threatening calls and messages. It will also discuss the stories of the victims, the lives that they lead, the circumstances of their mysterious deaths and disappearances, and the loved ones they left behind. The program is the result of months of scheduled interviews and research.
