News: Update For Medford Pharmacy Shooting
(Long Island, N.Y.) The wife of the alleged Medford pharmacy gunman will not face murder charges, but was indicted on the new charge of first-degree robbery. If convicted she could be sentenced to a maximum of twenty-five years. This comes after some suspected that she may be presented with similar charges as her husband.
The twenty-nine-year-old was originally charged with third-degree robbery, a charge that would likely yield less of a sentence. Some suspect that the robbery charges, although disappointing to the victims’ families, may be due to some type of plea bargain. Many believe that the wife will likely testify against her husband.
Reports stated that it is unlikely that she will face murder charges in the future. The wife of the alleged killer had previously stated that she was aware of the plot to rob the pharmacy. She also stated that she had no knowledge of her husband’s intentions to kill four innocent people that Father’s Day. Police and authorities on the case claimed that there was no way to prove that she knew of any such plans.
It was reported that about twenty family members of the deceased attended court today and exited with gloomy faces; they did not provide any statements. Some sources claimed that they understood the legal reasons as to why the charges were not as severe as what had been expected. Many stated that a possible plea deal was constructed to ensure her husband is put away for good.
The wife will also be charged with obstructing governmental administration for grabbing a police officer’s leg as her husband was being arrested at their Medford home. She may have avoided a lifetime behind bars by working with the police. Reports stated that the woman’s legal attorney could not be reached for comment. Some sources claimed that he may release a statement within the next couple of days.
It’s uncertain whether the woman will plead not guilty to the upgraded charges of robbery. Many followers of the case are interested in seeing what kind of role she will play at her husband’s trial. Some suspect she will be a key witness for the prosecution, aiding attorneys in placing her husband inside the pharmacy during the time of the murders.
Her husband has pleaded not guilty to the charges he faces. The video surveillance tape, which allegedly captures each of the murders, will likely be the main component of evidence against him. He is being accused of shooting two employees and two customers execution-style while stealing thousands of pills behind the counter.
