News: Update for Pharmacy Robbery
(Long Island, N.Y.) Police and authorities are asking the public for help concerning an incident that occurred on June 30th. Investigators claim that a man lifted a large quantity of medications from a drugstore in Selden. Detectives on the case have requested help identifying the suspect.
Authorities dealing with the incident stated that a surveillance video has captured the suspect exiting the drugstore. Footage of the crime has determined the suspect to be a black male. He was seen wearing a distinctive pink polo shirt and was carrying a gold bag.
Sources claimed that the suspect had used the bag as a place to dump the stolen medications. More evidence from the video footage determined that he had been wearing sunglasses as he fled the crime scene. According to reports, the drugstore in question was the Rite Aid in College Plaza.
Some sources stated that the suspect left the store without paying and that a store employee attempted to gain his attention. The suspect fled the area in a silver Honda Accord. Police and authorities on the case have urged the public with information concerning the suspect or robbery to contact Crime Stoppers; all calls will remain confidential.
According to reports, this robbery is one of four to hit Suffolk County over the past year involving prescription drugs. The first occurred June 19th at a drugstore in Medford and involved the gruesome deaths of four innocent people. Exactly a week after the Medford shooting, a CVS in Farmingville was targeted by a suspect who was also there to steal prescription medication.
The suspect involved in the June 19th shooting and the suspect identified in the June 26th CVS robbery have both been taken into police custody. In addition to the incident that occurred on June 30th, a CVS Pharmacy was robbed on Monday by a masked gunman seeking prescription drugs.
Some sources stated that a meeting was held in response to the recent crimes in drugstores and pharmacies. Merchants and pharmacy owners convened to discuss business safety and strategic procedures in the event of a robbery and similar crimes. It was stated that CVS Pharmacy follows its own safeguards and procedures that highlight safety.
Reports claimed that CVS will not be sharing its safety policies publicly, in an attempt to insure that the procedures remain effective. Nonetheless, sources stated that CVS Pharmacy has been cooperating with police and authorities who have been involved in the ongoing investigation in recent days. Many Long Islanders and local residents have claimed that the Medford tragedy has brought a heightened awareness to prescription thefts and pharmacy crimes.
